Charities call for more help to protect disabled

A group representing 14 different charities held a day of action last week, calling on local authorities to protect people with learning disabilities from the forthcoming budget cuts.

A group representing 14 different charities held a day of action last week, calling on local authorities to protect people with learning disabilities from the forthcoming budget cuts.

The Learning Disability Coalition, which includes Mencap, the National Autistic Society and People First, held the day as part of its Protect the frontline campaign. Coalition director, Anthea Sully, said representatives handed in postcards to councils across England, calling on councillors to remember the importance of social care.
