The chief executives of Staffordshire CC and Windsor and Maidenhead RBC have both announced their retirement. Staffordshire CC's top officer, Nigel Pursey, said he would be retiring next month, and councillors will be asked in October to confirm deputy chief executive, Ron Hilton, as his successor. Mr Pursey has been chief executive at Staffordshire CC since April 2003, and before that, was top officer at Shropshire CC for more than five years. He said: ‘After four-and-a-half years with the county council, and 10 years as a chief executive, I think now is the right time to move on from my current role to develop interests both in public services and in my private life.' Windsor and Maidenhead RBC chief executive, David Lunn, has also announced that he intends to retire at the end of February 2008. Mr Lunn's career in local government has spanned 40 years, including 12 as chief executive at Windsor and Maidenhead. ‘I plan to have an extended break during next spring and summer, and then I want to use the skills I have built up over the past 40 years for the benefit of the community, but in a way that will enable me to work for just three days a week,' he said. Salisbury DC has decided to appoint a chief executive on a 12-month contract. The council's top officer, Richard Sheard, left in January 2006, and since that time, David Crook has been acting chief executive. The authority's appointment panel decided last week to appoint a chief executive for a 12-month contract and it is hoped Mr Crook will apply for the position.
