Chief executives' union, ALACE, has rebuffed Eric Pickles' calls for them to take pay cuts, despite news that some top officers have agreed to reduce their earnings.

The communities secretary used his speech at this month's Conservative Party conference to call for council chief executives earning more than £150,000 to take a 5% pay cut, and for those earning more than £200,000 to reduce their earnings by 10%.
