Ministers have been forced to delay the introduction of a database containing details of every child in Britain, for the second time. Children's minister, Kevin Brennan, has written to the chair of the Commons' children, schools and families select committee, Barry Sheerman, revealing that the database, ContactPoint, requires additional testing before it can be used. Brennan's letter says there were still ‘issues' with the system. ContactPoint was designed so that health, education and social workers could share information on vulnerable children. It is hoped that the system will prevent children slipping through the welfare and social support net in a similar fashion to murder vicitm, Victoria Climbie.
