Football fever has taken hold in local government, just as the beautiful game's season reaches its thrilling climax. Sunderland City Council has been invited by to the Football Association to bid for hosting the World Cup in 2018. The city could group games at Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light. Leader of the council, Cllr Paul Watson, said: βIt's a very exciting proposition for everybody in Sunderland and being part of this FA bid is a testament to the first-class facilities that the city and region already offers to fans and visitors.'
