Brighton & Hove City Council has requested £15m of exceptional financial support (EFS) from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
A report to senior councillors next week said the one-off request for a capitalisation direction was ‘part of a strategy to fully fund service pressures going into 2026-27, protect and increase levels of reserves and provide sufficient time for savings to be delivered through the transformation portfolio'.
It is expected that the request for EFS will cost the council £1.3m in 2027-28.
The report said failure to grant the request would ‘likely' force the chief financial officer to issue a section 114 notice.
