The leader of Newcastle City Council has urged deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg, to quickly sign-off a 'city deal' for the area.

The leader of Newcastle City Council has urged deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg, to quickly sign-off a ‘city deal' for the area, despite voters rejecting the idea of a directly-elected mayor.

In a letter to Mr Clegg this week, Cllr Nick Forbes, said it had ‘always been clear that the deal was not conditional on a particular outcome of the referendum'.
