Portsmouth City Council has approved a £1.45m ‘bridging' loan to help a local supporters' trust buy troubled Portsmouth Football Club.

The club is currently in administration, and has been facing financial difficulties since 2009. It has twice been put into administration – initially in 2010, and then again in February this year.
