A radical shake-up is on the way for top jobs at Coventry City Council. Objectives of the restructure include modernisation of services started by Coventry Direct, with more efficiencies and cost savings. The proposed changes could also see new roles created for a city centre champion who will work closely with chief executive, Stella Manzie, to transform the centre of Coventry. But the shake-up, if approved, will also mean the posts of director of finance and ICT, and director of legal and democratic services, will be scrapped. New posts proposed for creation are director of finance and legal services, director of customer services and HR, and assistant chief executive. ‘The Government has now graded us as a three-star council, with some services, such as those for older people, regeneration and community safety, regarded as being among the best in the country,' said council leader Ken Taylor. ‘We now want to continue these improvements by focusing on effectiveness and efficiency.' Proposals to reorganise posts are to be discussed by councillors, with a final decision due in February.
