Civil service work force drops to post-war low

Official figures have shown, civil service staff numbers decreased by a further 7% in the last year.

Civil service staff numbers decreased by a further 7% in the last year, taking the headcount to a record post-war low, official figures have shown.

According to the Office for National Statistics, civil service employment fell by 34,621 between March 2011 and March 2012, bringing the central government workforce down to 463,812.
