'Clarity needed' over NI reforms

The local government association in Northern Ireland (NILGA) has called for ‘urgent clarity’ over the country’s ongoing local government reform programme.

On 13 June, the Northern Ireland Assembly established boundaries for the 11 proposed council districts, which will soon be reduced from 26 as part of the reform programme. NILGA president, Cllr Evelyne Robinson, who has called for the reforms to be predominantly sector led, said ‘uncertainty remains' over how to pay for the transition, and where responsibilities and powers should lie under the new arrangements.
