Discussing the new government's thoughts on the next big thing with someone today, it became clear that Eric Pickles' lads and lasses have been told not to wait for councils to come up with ideas for changing the way services are delivered and councils are structured. Instead, the minister will just nominate authorities to try a range of new stuff based on what seems to work somewhere. Not quite sure where somewhere is; but, it sounds like there are a set of "pilots" that CLG wants to see started after the emergency budget has been completed.Oh, and apparently, there is a discussion in CLG circles about what Total Place will end up being called, suggestions on a postcard...
