Closing the skills gap

Greg Clark ponders if post-16 reforms will finally pull the UK out of its productivity slump?

Last week, the much anticipated Post-16 Education and Skills White Paper was published, setting out the Government's plans for the skills system for the rest of this Parliament and beyond.

During my time in ministerial office, I would hear all the time from businesses with full order books that they were constrained by an inability to source a workforce with the skills needed to carry out the available work. That frustration has not gone away and the need to resolve it is growing more acute by the day.
