The Ministry of Sound nightclub in Southwark LBC, south London, found itself at the centre of a local government controversy this week.
Political donations, made by the club to the Liberal Democrats, and totalling almost £80,000, went undeclared prior to local planning meetings to discuss a tower block development opposed by the club's owners. Three local Liberal Democrat councillors opposed the development application – but were not obliged to declare donations to their party, because they were deemed not to have benefited personally. Ministry of Sound chief executive, Lohan Prescencer, said: ‘Our political donations have absolutely nothing to do with us fighting for survival.'
