Collecting kudos Local authorities in England collected £18bn in council tax for 2005/06 – some £32m more than the previous year. This represented a total collection rate of 96.8%, and was £600m short of the amount due. London boroughs were the worst-performing authorities, collecting only 93.9% and £144m short of the total due.
