Council bosses have warned colleges are failing students by training them for jobs that do not exist and ignoring sectors where there are opportunities.
Research carried out for the Local Government Association (LGA) found that 94,000 young people completed hair and beauty courses last year, despite only 18,000 new jobs being advertised in the sector.
