The Audit Commission is to slash its workforce as part of the watchdog's efforts to be ‘exemplary' in providing value for money. The commission is discussing with unions a proposal to cut 100 jobs during 2009-2010 to create a ‘leaner' workforce following the move to Comprehensive Area Assessment with its ‘reduced levels of inspection'. The commission's headquarters staff numbers and corporate services are also under review. Steve Bundred, the commission's chief executive, said: ‘We want to be exemplary in our commitment to providing value for money, demonstrably practising what we preach.'
