One-fifth of Scotland's 1,500 community councils are currently suspended because of a lack of interest, according to BBC Scotland.

One-fifth of Scotland's 1,500 community councils are currently suspended because of a lack of interest, according to research by BBC Scotland.

The study revealed that 299 councils were currently suspended, although eight local authority areas had a full complement. Vincent Waters, president of the Association of Scottish Community Councils, said the councils had no legal powers and legislation needed to be put in place ‘to make them more akin to parish councils in England'.
