Local and community services attracted the largest number of awards in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Altogether, 946 people were chosen for awards, with some 802 at Order of the British Empire and Member of the British Empire level, but community and local services accounted for 43% of the total. The honours list is drawn by eight specialist selection committees and aims to acknowledge achievement and service across the community with education, health, law and order, and the third sector chosen as priority areas. Some 9% of the total awards are for education, 8% for health, 16% for business, science and technology; 7% for arts and media and 3% for sport while 14% were awards in the state sector.
