A group of councils, contractors and architects has formed a new organisation to build better schools. The British Council for School Environments is a forum for both private and public sector organisations involved in building the next generation of British schools. Construction giant Carillion, whose current work includes the £100m contract to build six schools in Leeds, is one of the members of the new forum. Others include not-for-profit company School Works, Devon, Dorset and Hampshire CCs and, from the private sector, Amex, Feilden Clegg Bradley Architects and Mouchel Parkman Babcock. School Works managing director, Ty Goddard, said the new group would help companies share their experience about procurement, develop more best practice and also get children and teachers involved in designing new schools. Mr Goddard, said the Government would be spending billions through initiatives such as Building Schools for the Future and the primary school capital programme. ‘The cliche goes it’s the largest government investment in schools since the Victorian times,’ he said.
