A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… Well, OK, perhaps it was back in February and in Birmingham. But local government fans of Star Wars could be mistaken for thinking that they had stepped into George Lucas' world when they attended an event on commercial councils. As this rogue (one) tweet by Wyre Forest DC chief executive Ian Miller revealed, the gathered glitterati listened intently while one speaker delivered – to a slightly puzzled audience – an analysis of the ‘myth of the WOC'. Was the speaker really about to shatter the illusion of many a kidult and reveal that Ewoks or Chewbacca do not really exist? And, useful information though it would have been, what relevance would any of that have to local government? It turned out that the speaker was detailing concerns about wholly-owned companies – not some elaborate new plot-line in the next instalment of the world's most successful film franchise. Somehow the Star Wars phenomenon managed to pass by most of us at MJ Towers – we think that an Ewok is an online cookery tool.
