The role of the Welsh Assembly remains shrouded in a ‘great fog' of confusion, claims the chairman of the All-Wales Convention. Sir Emyr Jones Parry is currently conducting a public consultation throughout Wales on devolution and whether the Welsh Assembly should be given further law-making powers. The Former UN ambassador said although many people appreciate Welsh-only polices such as free tuition fees they remained unclear about how Welsh government works. He said: ‘If you then ask people where does primary legislation come into this and how does the Assembly get its powers, I think a great fogs descends. ‘There is a lot of confusion out there.' He is expected to publish a report at the end of this year on the public's appetite for increasing the law-making powers of the Assembly.
