Government proposals for regional pay have been attacked by the Conservative Party’s only MP in the North East.

Government proposals for regional pay have been attacked by the Conservative Party's only MP in the North East – a month before regional pay boards report back to chancellor George Osborne.

Guy Opperman, who represents the Northumberland constituency of Hexham, told his local newspaper The Journal: ‘I see no economic argument for introducing regional pay. Our current pay system, which sets a base pay rate, already allows for adjustments in high cost areas such as London.'
