Call to consolidate 'staggeringly-inefficient' LGPS

An expert has urged ministers to oversee the consolidation of the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Ministers must oversee the consolidation of the ‘staggeringly-inefficient' Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) to form the country's largest single retirement fund, an expert has urged.

Michael Johnson, a research fellow at the Centre for Policy Studies, has written to several ministers calling for the amalgamation of all 101 separate LGPS funds into a single pot worth £150bn.
