Capita Symonds has launched a new £75m joint venture company with three borough councils in Wales. The contractor has signed a deal with Bridgend CBC, Merthyr Tydfil CBC and Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC to create a new joint venture company to supersede and replace the Glamorgan Engineering Consultancy (GEC). The deal includes the TUPE transfer of 76 employees from GEC to the new company. Capita Symonds has already had a similar joint venture in place with four authorities in south-east Wales – Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Torfaen CBCs for the last five years. ‘We are delighted to have been named as successful bidder in this bold venture,' said Capita Symonds' managing director Wales and the west, Graham Cogswell. ‘This is a major achievement, and reinforces Capita Symonds' position as the leading consultancy in Wales. Our proven track record of improving services and job creation in Wales through multi-authority partnerships should give real confidence and a message of intent that we will deliver and add real value to the local economies in south Wales.' Meanwhile, Capita Group subsidiary, Sector, has bought the social housing consultancy Weedon Grant for an undisclosed sum. Sector's housing team with now merge with Weedon Grant's 18-strong team. Weedon Grant was formed in 2001 and provides social housing consultancy to several authorities and public sector associations, including Bradford City Council and the Tees Valley Housing Association. ‘This is an exciting development which will allow us to expand the range of services on offer to our existing registered social landlord and local authority client base, and comes at a time when community initiatives and regeneration are high on most landlords' agendas,' said Sector managing director, David Whelan.
