The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is demanding additional powers from ministers to cover the increased role of private sector companies in providing crime support services.
News of the request follows the announcement that US defence giant, Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), is one of four firms still bidding for a £1.5bn partnership contract with the Kent and West Midlands police forces.
