The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) has disputed claims by the Scottish Government that councils have received ‘significant resources' to meet the Government's commitment on providing equal financial support for kinship and foster carers.
Kinship carers – those looking after the children of relatives – are on average paid one-third less than foster carers, according to a recent report by Citizens Advice Scotland. A COSLA spokesperson did not agree with the Government over the resources given to councils, but praised the work councils had done.
