Illegal fly-tipping cost the taxpayer more than £40m last year, the Countryside Alliance has claimed.

According to figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, there were at least 656,000 incidents of unlawful rubbish dumping last year, which cost councils £40m to clear up and prosecute.
