Costly settlement Councils in Scotland have spent an estimated £100m in redundancy and early retirement settlements for staff over the past four years, according to The Scotsman newspaper. The newspaper obtained figures under freedom of information requests to 27 of Scotland’s 32 councils. Sums involved varied from £5.8m at Glasgow to just £83,000 at Dundee in 2003/04.
