Glasgow City Council has been accused of ‘back-door privatisation' after the ruling Labour group agreed to freeze council tax without cuts. The Labour group met last week where council leader, Steven Purcell, said he was ‘delighted' not to increase council tax for the second year in a row. The group also agreed to move car parks to a limited liability partnership. And cultural centres such as Kelvingrove are expected to be handed over to a charitable trust by May, saving the council between £6-7m. Both issues will come before council committees this Friday. The authority is looking to form a joint venture with a private company to handle its IT services.
