A Dumfries councillor is calling for an inquiry into senior council officials being promoted just before they retire in order to boost pensions.

Colin Smyth, finance spokesperson for the Labour group, said he was concerned by the number of senior staff being promoted through management restructures, only to take early retirement a few years later. He said it raises 'serious' questions about the recruitment process at the council.
