The newly-formed Cheshire East Council has the blessing of the Church of England. Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu visited St Michael's and All Angel's Church in Macclesfield last week, and met council leader, Cllr Wesley Fitzgerald, and chief executive, Erika Wenzel. He hailed Cheshire East's ambitions ‘wonderful' after hearing about the council's philosophy of neighbourhood working. And, he said: ‘The council wants to bring change and listen to the people. Being close to the people means it can't go wrong. With the energy of the community on the ground, there can be a lot of improvements. If the council doesn't succeed, I'll be back.'
