Electoral Commission chief executive, Peter Wardle, has hit out at the Government for causing confusion over the timing and wording of council tax referenda.

In a speech to a Society of Local Authority Chief Executives conference on 19 January, Mr Wardle sought to counter allegations that the commission had set out to prevent residents having their say on local taxes.
