Council tax to rise by an average 0.8%

According to initial findings from CIPFA annual survey, councils across England and Wales have increased council tax by 0.8%.

Councils across England and Wales have increased council tax by an average of just 0.8% for 2013/14, according to initial findings from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy's (CIPFA) annual survey.

As The MJ went to press, CIPFA's annual research into local rates had recorded an 84% response rate from precepting authorities and 35% from billing authorities.
