Nine out of 10 councillors may be lost in shire areas in local government reorganisation, academic experts have calculated.

Nine out of 10 councillors may be lost in shire areas in local government reorganisation, academic experts have calculated.

Calculations by emeritus professors Colin Copus and Steve Leach found that if new unitary authorities have populations of 500,000 then councillor numbers will reduce from around 12,000 to 1,200.
