Councils will bear the consequences of Reform's victory

When it comes to local government reorganisation, 'the Labour Government could well be less gung-ho if it thinks it will be creating a sea of turquoise mayors', says Heather Jameson.

The major fallout of last week's local election results so far – aside from the obvious loss of elected office for many councillors – has been the reams of commentary and media speculation.

And, while much of the national press has focused on the impact of the rise of Reform on national politics, it will be county halls that face the consequences of the electorate's decisions at the ballot box.
