Ministers have launched a competition to identify which councils are using their procurement processes to best support small local businesses.

The contest rules demand councils submit entry forms by 22 February to showcase how good their authority is at supporting local firms. Authorities bidding to become ‘the best councils to do business with' and enjoy a reception at Number 10 Downing Street must detail how they give commercial opportunities to small and medium enterprises – including social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations.
