Six more councils have announced job cuts of more than 1,000, in an effort to claw back savings amid the downturn. Newcastle City Council is to cut 500 jobs to deliver a £21m package to support the city's economy through the financial crisis. Up to 400 jobs are under threat at Buckinghamshire CC, as the council aims to reduce spending by £22m a year by March 2012. The reductions come on top of the 104 posts to be lost next year. Nottingham City Council could cut up to 400 jobs in a bid to save £12m and balance this year's budget. Worcestershire CC said it had proposals for 55 jobs to go through natural wastage, as part of the council's bid to save £25m a year. Wyre Forest DC said it was inviting workers to apply for voluntary redundancies, but could not rule out compulsory losses. Islington LBC looks set to cut senior managerial posts as part of a £13.5m cost-cutting package.
