Derbyshire's councils have moved closer to a consensus with the county on reorganisation now that joint proposals for two unitaries are set to be considered by the eight district and boroughs and Derby City Council.

The proposals from the districts and boroughs would cut the number of local authorities covering Derbyshire from 10 to two – one in the north and one in the south. The One Derbyshire, Two Councils proposal includes four variations on where the boundary line between the northern and southern authorities could be. One option places Amber Valley in the northern authority, while a second involves Amber Valley joining the southern unitary. In the other two variations the parishes currently covered by Amber Valley BC could sit between the two councils.
