Councils express concern over workload from CAA

The costs and time resources of the Audit Commission’s plans for future inspection have been criticised by local government.

The commission also reacted to the use of resources consultation. As a result, it has amended its plans, including its U-turn on raising the fees for district audit (The MJ, 5 December 2005).

Respondents welcomed the main proposals, but there were concerns that:


The commission has since cut the scope of the use of resources, removed areas transferred from corporate assessments, and streamlined the key lines of inquiries – cutting them form 13 to nine, or eight for districts.

Commission chief executive, Steve Bundred, told The MJ: ‘The message is clear, and we have listened and responded to it.' He said the changes would make a ‘more proportionate approach'.
