Manufacturing industries have been the major beneficiaries of the second round of regional growth fund (RGF) allocations. But councils have also featured in successful bids to kick-start sub-national growth.
Deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg, announced the final round of winning RGF bids on 31 October. Supported schemes included £8.8m for a joint initiative between Barnfield Investment Properties, Network Rail, Burnley Council and Lancashire CC to halve train journey times between Burnley and Manchester – and to redevelop buildings along the Leeds Liverpool canal.
