How councils will fare under Fair Funding 2.0

The Fair Funding Review 2.0 is set to take effect from April 2026. It is a significant overhaul of how central government funding is allocated to local authorities in England.

The aim of the review is to create a more equitable and transparent system based on relative need, local cost variations and the revenue-raising capacity of individual councils, using more current data than the current funding formula.
