The Government has outlined its priorities for the coming decade – and local government is at the centre of the entire agenda. The Cabinet Office strategy unit set out the challenges facing the country, which cut across government departments and public services, including: l globalisation l economic prosperity llife chances, talent and social mobility lthe ageing and increasing diversity of the population l family life and communities l crime and public safety l public services l climate change l renewal of the constitution An LGA spokesman, said: ‘It is clear the challenges which national government is trying to get to grips with are at the heart of what councils do best.'
