Councils are included in the class action against the Motorola-owned Airwave Network

Local authorities are in line to receive a portion of any damages awarded for alleged unfair pricing against the emergency communications Airwave Network - known as the 999 network – if the Home Office-funded claim is successful, says Clare Spottiswoode.

On 13 October 2025, I was approved by a specialist UK Tribunal to represent in a legal action Local Authorities and other organisations that paid for access to the Airwave Network between 1 January 2020 and 31 July 2023.

 The Airwave Network, commonly known as the 999 network, is used by Local Authorities, emergency services, charities and certain private companies across the UK. The emergency communications network is operated by Airwave and there is no alternative.
