Proposed changes to local audit arrangements mean councils would not be obliged to disclose the identity of their auditors, MPs have been told.

Giving evidence to the Draft Local Audit Bill committee last week, Marcine Waterman, controller of audit at the Audit Commission, told MPs that, under current proposals for the Bill, there was ‘no requirement at all' for councils to publicly state which firms inspected their accounts.
