After six years in Coventry City Council's most senior post, Stella Manzie is heading for a high-powered job with the Scottish Government. Announcing her departure, Ms Manzie admitted the decision to leave was ‘hugely difficult', but the challenge offered by the role with the Government of director general, finance and corporate services was one she ‘simply could not turn down'. Ms Manzie has held a number of senior roles within local government. She was chief executive at West Berkshire Council before her move to Coventry, and chief executive at Redditch BC, prior to that. She also worked as a management consultant for a number of London boroughs. After joining Coventry, she was responsible for leading the council as it transformed its services and became the fastest-improving council in the country. It is currently rated as a three-star council and is ‘improving well', according to the Audit Commission. ‘Being chief executive of Coventry has been a huge privilege, and one of the best jobs I have ever had,' she said. ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the council's politicians of all parties, as well as with some great colleagues. I love this city and I will miss it when I go, although I'll return often so I can see for myself the continuing transformation of Coventry over the next few years.' Leader of the council, Ken Taylor, said he was delighted for Ms Manzie, and ‘very proud' she had been appointed to such a key job. ‘There's no doubt her commitment, professionalism and energy have contributed a great deal to the organisation and Coventry itself, as it has transformed itself over recent years.'
