The recently-formed Care Quality Commission (CQC) has been accused of failing to strive for a sustainable future. In a new report from the Sustainable Development Commission (SDC), the CQC is said to have refused to accept sustainable development falls within its remit. This is despite claims from the SDC the influence of public sector regulators, such as the CQC, on hospitals, schools and councils is ‘vital' to create a sustainable future. The report looked at the Audit Commission, Ofsted and the Healthcare Commission – later the CQC – and how they were embedding sustainable thinking in their work.
