Angus councillors have backed the Angus Credit Union's work in helping struggling residents to avoid using payday loan companies.

Angus councillors have backed the Angus Credit Union's (ACU) work in helping struggling residents to avoid using payday loan companies charging ‘immoral' interest rates of more than 2,000%.

Angus Council's provost, Helen Oswald, led a campaign to get colleagues to sign-up to the union – which has almost 800 members and deposits of £130,000 – and delivered a unanimous motion in support of its work.
