Angus councillors have backed the Angus Credit Union's (ACU) work in helping struggling residents to avoid using payday loan companies charging ‘immoral' interest rates of more than 2,000%.
Angus Council's provost, Helen Oswald, led a campaign to get colleagues to sign-up to the union – which has almost 800 members and deposits of £130,000 – and delivered a unanimous motion in support of its work.
