Cross-party LGA fails to agree tourism tax line

The Local Government Association (LGA) has failed to agree on whether to back plans to give English strategic mayors the power to introduce a tourism tax.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has failed to agree on whether to back plans to give English strategic mayors the power to introduce a tourism tax. 

In its response to the Government's consultation on the plans, the Labour-led LGA stressed that its support for the levy was the ‘majority position', with its Conservative group objecting to the policy ‘within the organisation on consecutive occasions'.
