The historic jewel of south London is set to become the centre of a £67.5m regeneration programme. The London Development Agency (LDA) has confirmed its masterplan to transform Crystal Palace park, created after the 1851 Great Exhibition. The plan will be submitted this autumn to Bromley LBC by the LDA, Design for London and award-winning architect Latz & Partner. It will create ‘one of the most spectacular green spaces in Europe'. It will become the hub for south London's sporting, recreation, cultural and heritage attractions across 39 acres. In the past, the park has been host to John Logie Baird's first TV company, 20 FA cup finals and even motor racing. Chief executive of the LDA, Manny Lewis, said: ‘We have worked hard to ensure that local people have had a real say in the future of their park, after carrying out the largest park consultation in UK history. ‘Having seen these exciting designs drawn up by Latz & Partner, I am confident that they are entirely fitting for this historic park, ensuring it has a sustainable, ecological yet exciting future for years to come.'
